These one and two-bedroom highly insulated units are being snapped up fast. They come complete with air conditioners, hot water systems, and everything you need to simply plug into the mains and make yourself at home.
Seeds of a Transportable Dream
In 2019, after buying a little scrub block on the Coolum Yandina Road on the Sunshine Coast, Steve and Kate began a heart project that was squeezed in between the more prominent projects of that year.
They cleared the block, mostly weed species, but with a fantastic view, and back in Roma, began to build a house out of two shipping containers. The coastal block was a blank slate, it had no power, and no water. There is a saying about restrictions breeding creativity, and in this case, that saying proved to be true. Intense investigations into solar power and off-grid housing solutions ensued.
Using their high quality and well-known trades in Roma, the house was quickly constructed at home base and then shipped to the coast, where a large, fully screened spotted gum hardwood deck was added together with water tanks, concrete landings and stumps.
The experience not only provided Steve and Kate with an outlet for creativity and something different to build. It gave them a keen insight and curiosity into what else could be done using transportable buildings and custom-built homes.
Fast forward to 2023, and Maranoa Transportable Buildings was created to cater to the ever-growing interest in transportable buildings in general.
The Team
Director and builder Steve has been in the construction industry for well over thirty years and has built many large-scale projects throughout the Maranoa and further afield under parent company SM & KA Duff Builders Pty Ltd.
Foreman and Leading Hand: Patrick joined the company as a school-based apprentice in 2014 and is currently a fully-fledged tradesman with ten years of experience in a wide variety of building projects under his tool belt. Now the leading hand and foreman, Patrick has an unbeatable work ethic and pride in workmanship, allowing the team to mow through construction deadlines.
Carpenter: Thomas came on board in 2022. He is learning quickly and thriving in his new career.
In addition to immediate family, the company has several other employees and subcontractors who together form a professional team with diverse skill sets.
